After paying off debt, Rev. Black used the remains of proceeds to purchase the current 3.5 acre site on Blessing Avenue, several miles to the north-west of the original 350 acres, to build a modern Tabernacle. This building enabled the Association to continue its mission of supporting the Black community of Central Texas. The construction cost $500,000.
In 1958, the modern facility opened its doors. It was used for services by member churches when their regular facilities were not available or they needed a larger space. Every summer, the site hosted a convention to build connections across the far-flung Black Baptist communities of Texas. For three generations, this was a place of countless weddings, funerals, gatherings, and conventions but those are stories for another place and time.
